CDA 91's made a great
first impression by going out and winning the
prestigious San Diego Surf Cup.
- CDA 3 San Diego Surf 0
CDA took the field against Surf and the field
was surrounded with over 50 college coaches
eager to watch CDA. The boys came out ready and
anxious to play and didn`t disappoint.
The game started off fast and physical. Surf
generated some good play but never broke down
the defense of CDA with Eric Bryant, Matt
Thayer, Andrew Mills and Evan Johnson.
CDA adjusted to the competitive environment and
came out in the second half threatening Surf
with multiple scoring chances. AJ Vogt entered
the game and and gave a spark to the CDA attack
being a consistent threat on the left side.
Austin Kinn picked a ball in midfield and split
the Surf defense to find Cole Alexander in on a
1v1 with the Surf keeper that Cole beat to put
CDA up 1-0. Later in the half AJ Vogt dribbled
two defenders and served a driven cross into
Evan Hodge for a great goal off a header from 12
yards out.
Five minutes later Casey Mueser found AJ Vogt
again behind the defense and AJ was dragged down
in the box for a penalty kick. Evan Hodge calmly
stepped up and buried the penalty to seal the
game. CDA midfield of Will Walker, Cody Duff and
Casey Mueser dictated the second half.
Goalkeepers Tyler Kinn and Jake Feener started
the tournament out with a clean sheet.
- CDA 1 Pateadores 1
The team came out early and dominated possession
but couldn`t break the strong defense of the
Pats. The game was fast and both teams were
trying to set the tempo early with a goal.
Tanner Roland and Eric Bryant were busy as
outside backs pressing the team forward. Andrew
Mills went down with an injury and the team had
to step up collectively to fill his absence.
Harris Levin and Conor Delaney came in and
contributed right away.
Evan Hodge found AJ Agha on a diagonal ball
behind and Agha served a great early ball to the
back post that AJ Vogt was on the end of to put
CDA up 1-0. The Pats came out pushing in the
second half and CDA held steady until a late
goal from a cross found the back of the net and
the score was tied 1-1. CDA pushed forward with
three forwards AJ Agha, Cole Alexander and Casey
Meuser and generated some late chances but the
Pats stood strong. The game finished 1-1 setting
up the showdown with Real So Cal on Monday for
the Surf championship.
- CDA 1 Real So Cal 0
The team and coaching staff came out ready and
eager to compete against the reputable club of
Real So Cal. Knowing they had to win the game
CDA came out fast trying to press for an early
goal. The Real So Cal team was organized and a
well coached side. The game was a battle in
midfield with neither team giving anything up.
CDA created a scoring chance early when Evan
Johnson went on a 30 yard run from left back and
found Cody Duff on top of the box for great shot
that just missed the right post. Real So Cal
raised their level and generated two corners
late in the half but were unable to capitalize.
The second half started and the intensity in the
game got more fierce. Once again AJ Vogt came in
at half and provided a spark. With a run down
the left side he hit a driven ball to the back
post that hit the upper corner and found the net
to put CDA up 1-0. Real So Cal pressed hard with
20 minutes left in the match and CDA had to make
some changes to sustain the lead. Conner Delaney
and Evan Johnson came in and provided rock solid
defense and had an answer for Real So Cals
threats pushing forward. With 4 minutes left
Casey spotted Conner on a darting run to the
back post that Conner made a diving header
attempt to seal the game but just missed. Once
again Matt Thayer and Andrew Mills dominated the
center defense and the players were determined
to win. The final whistle blew and CDA were
victorious 1-0.
The team had a great weekend
and walked proudly through the airport with
their championship jackets.
A special thanks to all the CDA administrators,
volunteers and parents who made this trip so
successful!
