CDA 16’s Split Games with Seattle Opponents
October 24, 2009
The CDA 16’s were defeated for the first time of
the Developmental Academy season on Saturday,
October 24th by Crossfire Premier. Crossfire
earned a 3-0 victory over the CDA 16’s. CDA had
a lot of possession and hit the post early.
However, Taylor Haakon shifted the momentum when
he stuck away the first goal of the match at the
13 minute mark. Crossfire was awarded a penalty
kick in stoppage time of the first half which
Jim Oganga hammered home. CDA came out strong in
the second half creating a few good looks at the
Crossfire goal, but where unable to finish. With
two minutes remaining in the match, Parker
Powell scored a counter attack goal to give the
Crossfire a 3-0 victory.
The defeat on Saturday certainly motivated the
16’s to raise their level and come out and play
with passion on Sunday against Washington
Premier. This time it was CDA scoring first as
Seth Casiple set up Matt LaGrassa for the games
first goal. The lead did not last long as
Washington forward Sean Okoli tied the match 1-1
soon after. First half substitution Connor
Hallisey gave CDA the lead again off a Matt
Wiesenfarth set up. The score was 2-1 at the
break with each team having several good looks
at goal. The two halftime substitutions for CDA
helped solidify the defense. Austin Dunn stepped
in at center back and Kellen Crow clogged up the
midfield as a defensive center midfielder. Just
three minutes into the 2nd half Matt LaGrassa
struck again when he collected and slotted a
driven ball from right back Connor Swartz. Ten
minutes later Casiple made it 4-1 on another
assist from Swartz. Two minutes later Hallisey
scored his second on another assist from Casiple.
In stoppage time, Gabe Lock made an overlapping
run down the left side and unselfishly found
LaGrassa who slotted home his third goal of the
day. CDA defeated Washington Premier 6-1.
CDA 16’s and 18’s are back in action on
Saturday, October 31st as they take on one of
the best Developmental Academy programs in
Chivas USA. The matches will take place in the
stadium at Folsom High School. The 16’s kick off
at 1:30 and the 18’s kick off at 3:30. They are
sure to be two high level matches.
